Maja Sommersted    

 Art has always been a big part of my life, for me art became a way of communicating when I did not speak the language. I was born in Denmark and lived there for the first six years of my life.  My parents desire for adventure brought us to Africa for a year and a half,  and then later to England for two years, before we settled in the United States when I was 14 years old.  I have a great appreciation for the Colorado blue skies and snowy mountain tops and consider this beautiful place my home.  My husband is a Colorado native and we are blessed with three beautiful daughters. We all enjoy the outdoors; hiking and camping, taking lots of photos and painting plein air. 

I studied art at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado and received my B.A. in 1996 and continued on to become certified to teach Art K-12 in 1998.  I am a member of the Western Colorado Center for the Arts, Artspace & Open Studios and the Rocky Mountain Collage Society.
